For example, choose a specific topic like SEO, Social media or email marketing, instead of selecting a broad topic like digital marketing.
I am not telling that you should not.
But if you choose a specific topic and write content around it, there are chances that you will be writing very deep about it.
Then this will make search engines easily index and rank your content for that particular topic.
It would even be great if you go very very specific. For example, instead of choosing the topic SEO you choose topic like backlinks, local SEO etc.

2. Make use of keywords effectively
Keywords will definitely matter the most. Try optimizing your content by placing keywords effectively.
Select the right keyword which you are trying to rank for and then place it in you title tag, meta description, header tag, etc.
This will help search engines to rank your content.
Trust me, if optimised properly search engines can get you lots of quality traffic to your website.
3. Make use of internal links
This is ignored by most of the websites. They write quality content, optimize it by inserting keywords and then just publish.
But make sure you are doing internal linking from one page to the other, before you publish your content.
Internal links will help search engines with your site structure and also know the importance of each pages.
So make effective use of them.
4. Make your website load fast
Website loading speed is one of the most important SEO factor which will help you get traffic.
Make sure you are removing all the unnecessary files, compressing images and removing plugins which slow down your site.
You can even reduce the bounce rate of your website if it loads fast, thus it means your are creating good user experience.
5. Update your website with fresh content
Websites which keep updating their content on regular basis has more chances of getting ranked when compared to sites which do not update.
This is one of the main reason on why websites like wikipedia get ranked mostly.
6. Get backlinks
I am sure you might already be knowing how important backlinks are for your site.
Having quality backlinks from good DA sites will gain you most from SEO as well as in getting referral traffic.
The best way to get quality backlinks is either approach for guest posts or write an epic post in your site and approach websites to link to your post.
