Being a blogger myself, I always encourage new bloggers and want to help my best to make them successful.

In Fact the main intention to start this blogging site was with that purpose. 

However, there are many people who give up just because they do not do proper groundwork and miss out on a few things to know before starting a blog.

This blog is mainly for them. Here I have highlighted a few things every new blogger needs to know before starting their blogger journey.

1. Choose a Right Blog Platform

Many bloggers fail in choosing a right blog platform and hence quit easily. You should consider few things while choosing your blog platform:

• Do you need complete control of your blog?
• Do you want to promote whatever products you feel like promoting?
• Do you want to accept sponsored posts once your blog gets good traffic?
• Do you want to run money through various ad networks?

If your answer to all the above questions is YES, then I recommend you to choose your own self hosted blog. For this you need to spend some money in your hosting provider and then integrate your hosting with platforms like WordPress.

But if your intention is just to write, then you can choose platforms like Medium.com, which is a good choice to start with.

2. Earning Money from Blog is Not Easy

Many people wanted to start their own blog just because they have read some blogs on how they earn huge money. Taking inspiration from such blogs and starting your own blog is good, but please note that it takes lots of time and needs lots of consistent efforts to start earning money from a blog.

I personally know many people who have quit their blogging journey, just because they were expecting to earn money very fast and they were not able to.

Blogging is not a quick rich scheme.

3. Choose a Right Niche

Another main thing to know before starting a blog was on how to choose the best niche.

Please keep the following points in mind while choosing a niche:

• Do not choose a niche because other bloggers are earning lots of money from it
• Do not choose a niche even if you have no prior knowledge on it, just because it is profitable
• Do not choose a niche which you feel like boring, as you will not be able to write on it for a long term

4. Build Great Content

As I told previously, blogging is not a quick rich scheme. It is also not something you can create and forget about it.

Once you start your blogging journey, you need to focus on consistently creating great content for your readers.

Nothing beats great content. Having a great content can help you in many ways:

• Google will recognize your content and your blog can get better visibility in search engines
• Your readers will constantly engage with your blog
• Other big publishers might approach you, as they liked your content

It’s not just these, there are many other ways which great content will help your blog. Hence focus on consistently creating great content.

5. Learn Consistently

As mentioned in the previous point, you need to keep creating great content. For this to happen, you should learn on a consistent basis. Only when you learn and keep yourself updated, you can provide better value to your readers.

You should not just learn about your niche, there are various other things you need to learn to maintain your blog:

• Creating images, so that you can use them as blog banners and also to use in social media promotion. However, you do not need to learn and become an expert in Photoshop. There are many tools like Canva which can make your job easy.
• Basic coding, again using platforms like WordPress makes your job easy. But you should also spend some time in understanding how WordPress works and how should it be integrated with your hosting provider
• Creating videos, so that you can upload and promote in YouTube

6. Have Your Own Way

Just because other bloggers are becoming more money, do not just copy their style. Have your own way of writing and expressing your thoughts to readers.

Do not feel shy or afraid in expressing your thoughts in your own way, feeling like what others might think about your style.

Always be yourself and create a unique style of yours. It might not just be in writing, it can be in things like the way you promote your blog, the kind of banner images you choose etc.
