It is the dream for everyone to make their blog ranked at the first page of Google for their targeted keyword.
But everyday there are around 20 Lakh new blog posts published in internet and it is very difficult to compete with all these, but if you go in a very strategic way then it might be possible to make your dream come true.
So in this blog post I will try to discuss some of the best ways through which you can make your blog rank number 1 on Google.
Let’s dive in to them:
Create Pillar Pages
A pillar page is a blog post which is like a comprehensive guide on a particular topic. For example, it can be a post on “SEO basics” which explains all on-page and off-page SEO factors. It might be a long one with around more than 5000 words.
The main purpose of this post is, if someone wants to learn about basics of SEO then this guide should be the one stop solution for them.
In parallel to creating 1 pillar post per topic, you should also be creating some cluster blog posts related to the topic, which will all point or linked back to the main pillar post.
It means if my pillar post topic is “SEO Basics: A Comprehensive Guide”, then my cluster post topics can be like: “How to write effective meta description”, “Importance of internal links in SEO” etc.
Optimize content for featured snippets
Featured snippets is the another way which can help you get ranked number 1 in Google.
A featured snippet is a summary of an answer to a user’s query, which is displayed on top of Google search results.
Most of the answers which are shown in featured snippet are taken from the first page results of Google’s SERP. The interesting part here is that it need not be from first position result.
Reports from various sources show that it would be very helpful to get showcased in featured snippets as it helps in driving lots of traffic.
The best way to get showcased here is to try answering questions users are searching for. If you know the various questions users are trying to search, then you can make those questions as H2 in your blog and then directly answer below it.
Be Consistent in Blogging
Being consistent with your blogging will help you improve your rankings in search results.
It is not like, you blog continuously for a week, with 1 blog per day and then take a break for next 2 Months. Blogging will not work this way and your blog will rarely rank.
It does not also mean that you should blog everyday compromising on quality, with around 300 to 500 words.
What actually works is consistency with quality blogging.
You might publish only 1 blog per week, but you have to make sure you are doing it every week and at the same time the quality of the blog is good. Make sure the blog is of minimum 1000 words.
The more the length of the blog, the better is for SEO rankings.
Focus on on-page SEO of your blog
I knew most of the people wondering on why are they not getting ranked in search results even if they write quality content.
The answer is – search engines were not recognizing your content for users search query, because you did not do SEO for it.
SEO is the process which will help you get ranked in search engines by helping you recommending certain strategies.
So, basically there are two parts in SEO – On-page SEO & Off-page SEO.
Anything that you do inside of your website for better results in search engines can be called as on-page SEO.
Anything that you do outside of your website is off-page SEO.
Here are some of the very important on-page SEO factors which can help you with:
- Title tag
- Meta description
- Header tags
- Image Alt tag
- Internal and external links
- XML site map
- Robots.txt file etc.
There are lots of other on-page factors, but will be very difficult for me to mention all of them here.
But my main intention is to tell you that you should be doing on-page SEO for your blog, before you publish it.
Build Quality Backlinks
As discussed above, we have two parts in SEO – on-page & off-page.
Building quality backlinks is the part of off-page SEO.
This is one of the activity which can boosts your search rankings, but at the same time one of the difficult task, from bloggers perspective.
Other than publishing guest blog in a very high reputed site (which bloggers seem is difficult), here are some other ways which can help bloggers build quality backlinks:
- Publish Videos in YouTube and Give a backlink to your website from the video description.
- Be active in Quora. Answer the questions related to your niche, build an authority for yourself, in the process give backlinks from your answers to the website.
- Mention popular or people related to your niche in your blog, let them know that you have mentioned about them. This can help them giving a backlink from their site. (Note: You do not get backlink always, but can see an increase in traffic if the respective person shares your article in his social profiles).
Conclusion
Getting ranked as number 1 in Google search results is time taking and requires lots of efforts to put in.
I hope some of the ways discussed above will help you achieve your dream to get shown at the top of SERP.
