It can be very difficult to imagine (can be very frustrating as well) the situation where you have kept your time and efforts in building a website and would like to change to a new website builder as you are facing many issues with the current one.
Both WordPress and Wix have their own pros and cons, this blog will try to compare different categories in detail.
Before I go for a detailed review, let me keep it short:
If you are looking for a website builder which has many features, then WordPress has the advantage over Wix.
When you are looking for a website builder from cost perspective, then Wix has the advantage over WordPress (WordPress is free, but needs to invest for its hosting, premium themes and many other features).
Comparing WordPress Vs Wix Using Various Categories
-
Flexibility
WordPress is an open source platform, which means its code is accessible to everyone. That was the main reason why you can see lots of plugins created to use in WordPress website. Hence the flexibility with WordPress is more as it give access to lots of tools.
WordPress is an open source platform, which means its code is accessible to everyone. Share on XBut there is a point to be noted here. WordPress has more of untrustable plugins which can actually make your website get hacked, if you install them. It does not mean that there are no quality plugins to use, but is very difficult to differentiate from the other low quality plugins.
When coming to Wix, it is not an open source platform. Its code can be accessed only by their developers, hence the tools which you use to enhance your website are also built by them. This makes them more secured.
2. Ease of Use
When it comes to ease of use, Wix has an advantage compared to WordPress.
Wix is a What-You-See-Is-What-You-Get (WYSIWYG) kind of website builder. You can just create your website by simple drag and drop options.
Where as in WordPress you have to preview the page once you put the content its editor, which looks different when compared to the editor page.
3. Support
When it comes to support, there is a community with lots of users who give their own suggestions for a particular query. It is a kind of information overload where you might get confused on whose suggestion to follow.
But Wix has a dedicated support team, and since the code is developed by their own they can help your problem get resolved very soon. They have both email and scheduled phone support.
Wix has even many tutorials and videos which can help you with most common problems you face, in the process of designing your website.
4. Ongoing Maintenance
WordPress is continually updating its platform from time to time. But when you are using a custom theme you have to update it manually. You also need to update your plugins and themes on timely basis. Some good plugins and themes will update automatically for you, but most of them do not.
But Wix technical team will update your website as per their new version, which makes your job very easy, especially for non-technical people.
5. Pricing
WordPress actually comes with free of cost, but you need to buy hosting for it to work. You also might need to buy a premium theme as their free themes are not very attractive. You should also go with some premium plugins to go for more customization of the website.
Wix offers different pricing plans, which covers free domain, hosting and many other features.
In general, when you add your hosting, cost of the theme and cost of each premium plugin you purchase, the total cost might be more compared to one of the pricing plan offered by Wix.
But if you would like to go with only free themes and free plugins, then WordPress might come at cheaper cost compared to Wix.
Conclusion
Choosing which website builder to use is for sure a personal choice. At the same time WordPress is been used by millions of websites in internet. It all depends on your requirement.
But tried to analyse from the above categories, for sure Wix has an advantage compared to WordPress.
