If you are running your business online, then you might understand how important is the traffic to your website.
Without traffic your business will not run.
So how do you get the traffic from, that to at a free of cost?
There are many ways through which you get it. You can use social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn etc. You can also use platforms like Quora, warrior forum by participating in the discussions.
These are the best traffic sources for your website. Then why should you really worry about organic traffic?
Organic traffic is the traffic that comes from search engines, where people are actually looking for and typing their particular query. It means the quality of the traffic that you get from search engines will be definitely high.
That too this is the traffic which can get you results for a very long time. For example, just create an epic blog post, use some SEO strategies and publish it. Then you will see traffic coming to this blog for many years, that too for a free of cost.
See for example, I typed a query in Google in 2017 – “how to be motivated always”. But it is still showing results from blogs that are published in 2012, 2013, 2014.
So there is no doubt in telling that SEO or the organic traffic is the best traffic of all the other traffic sources of internet marketing.
Great!!
Then you might be asking me a question now. How can I actually get more organic traffic to my website?
Don’t worry. That was the reason I wrote this blog. This blog will explain you all the important strategies which can help you in getting more organic traffic to your website.
So let’s not waste time and start learning about those strategies now.
Let me first list all the strategies here and then explain about them in detail:
- Understand your buyer persona
- Use long tail keywords
- Write for users, not for search engines
- Write SEO optimised content
- Create the best content in the web
- 80 – 20 Rule
- Get backlinks from relevant niche websites
- Use Social Media
- Make people to revisit again – Collect their email Id
- Do not Use Black Hat SEO techniques
So let’s get started with the discussion of each strategy in detail.
- Understand your buyer persona
Understanding buyer persona is nothing but understanding about the targeted people to whom you wanted to reach to sell your products or services.
Without understanding your buyer personas it would be very difficult for you to reach your target audience. For example, you cannot write a blog post on how to buy a pizza online in New york, if your target audience is actually from India.
You can write good quality blog posts which can actually bring you lots of organic traffic if you can understand your target audience first.
Here are some of the questions you should ask yourself for understanding your buyer personas:
- Demographic information – Like age, sex, marital status, location etc.
- Educational background
- Industry and size of company (mostly for B2B businesses)
- Targeted job title
- Biggest challenges they face etc.
Remember, you might not require all the above personas for your business. It depends from business to business. I hope you got my point on how actually to understand your buyer personas.
If you still have any doubts, please feel free to ask your question in the comments section below and I will try to answer it.
Let’s go to our next strategy now.
- Use long tail keywords
Long tail keywords are keywords that are longer and more specific. Long tail keywords might have very less search volume, but usually will have a high conversion rate.

For example, let’s say your website sells sports shoes for children. Then the conversion rate for the keyword “Best sports shoes for children” might be of more use to you rather than just targeting a keyword “shoes”. I hope this example makes more sense.
Long tail keywords might also help you in getting more organic traffic as they are less competitive. People in the internet marketing world call this as – aiming for a low hanging fruit.
Lets come to the same example again. When you type “shoes” in Google search bar, then you might see all the top big brands appearing there and it would be very difficult for you to compete with them, initially.
So always go for a low hanging fruit which will bring you best results for your business.
- Write for users, not for search engines
Yes I agree. SEO rankings are very important and it brings you good quality traffic. But do you know a secret? Search engines favor websites which are actually written keeping users in mind rather than search engines.

What does it actually mean? Does it mean that I should not use any keywords in my blog?
No. You can use keywords in your blog. But it should not look spam.
That was the reason why Google comes out with various algorithm updates from time time, just to make sure that users are getting benefited from your content.
The simple tip for you to write content for users is – Ask yourself a question thinking yourself as user on whether do you actually like and read the content you wrote. This simple introspection can help you in writing content for users rather than search engines.
In the strategy 5 – writing the best content in the web, you will actually come to know on what type of content will Google actually like. Just wait for few minutes and you will be there.
- Write SEO optimised content
I know, you might actually have a question now – I am writing content for users, then why should I actually again get worried about SEO?
I appreciate your question.
It is because Google search engine is a bot and not human. It has its own rules in recognizing the best content in the web. In order your content to get recognized by search engines, you need to follow these rules.
Writing your content based on SEO rules might give you added advantage compared to all the other quality articles present in the internet.
Here are various SEO strategies you should consider while writing your blog post or web page:
- Title tag
- Meta description
- Header tags (H1 to H6)
- Alt tag
- Internal links
- External links
5. Create the best content in the web
This is the most important strategy for your blog to get ranked in Google – creating the best content in the web, for the targeted keyword.
How to actually do it.
Just type your targeted keyword in Google. You will be getting top search results based on this keyword. Open the first five results and observe how the content looks like. Then start creating more when compared to them.
Create more words, include more images, include infographics etc. Brian Dean from Backlinko call this as a skyscraper technique. You can know more about it here.
This is the kind of technique which can actually attract lots of backlinks, brings you quality traffic, reduces your website bounce rate.
Don’t miss the case study which is linked. Brian Dean explains it very well. Go ahead and read it. You will definitely appreciate me for it.
- 80 – 20 Rule
Websites that are frequently updated with blogs will get you good traffic. But it does not mean that you should publish blogs which are of very low quality everyday.
You can publish only 1 blog per 1 week, but make sure it is of high quality. But always remember 80-20 rule. This is the most discussed rule in the world of internet marketing.
It actually tells that – keep your 20% of time in creating content and 80% of time in promoting it.

There is nothing wrong in publishing 1 blog every month if you can actually bring lots of traffic to it, as they are of high quality.
For example, Brian Dean from backlinko.com created very few posts till now. But he ranks for highly competitive keyword like – link building.
- Get backlinks from relevant niche websites
Backlinks are the most important ranking factor in the world of SEO. Getting backlinks to your websites from the niche websites which are relevant can actually increases your website authority from Google perspective and can increase your search ranking.
Backlinks are the most important ranking factor in the world of SEO. Share on XBut getting backlinks from other websites is not that easy.
It needs lots of time and manual efforts. But it does not mean that it is an impossible task.
If you can carefully read the Skyscraper case study written by Brian Dean, discussed above, you can easily get backlinks to your website.
Probably I will write a detailed blog on how to increase backlinks to your website, later. Just keep an eye on all my future blog posts in this website.
Social media does not have a direct effect in your organic rankings. But it do have indirect effect.
- It increases your brand awareness
- Might increase or decrease your site bounce rate
- Can get you backlinks, if people from social media sites like your content.
- There are also chances that Google might rank your content if it gets more likes, shares and retweets.
To know more on how social media affects SEO, read the following article from SEMrush.
- Make people to revisit again – Collect their email Id
Your money is in the list. Having good email subscribers is the biggest asset for your business. You can always send them emails about your blog updates and new product offers.
But how will email list actually help in SEO ranking.
It helps in a indirect way.
It can help people re-visit to your website again and again, which is a strong signal to Google that users are liking your content.
But how do you collect email Ids – Offering free resources like ebooks, checklists etc.
See the following image on how one of my favorite blogging site collect email Id of its visitors by offering free resource which is valuable for them.
- Do not Use Black Hat SEO techniques
In order to get results fast, most of the people will go for black SEO techniques like keyword stuffing, using duplicate content, including unrelated keywords etc.
But I highly recommend not doing it. Using black hat SEO techniques can bring you instant results, but Google will penalize you over the time.
Right SEO will take time to show you results. But they lasts for evergreen.
Conclusion
Follow the ways discussed above and get more organic traffic to your website. Some might see the results with in a very few days. Some might take months to see the results. It all depends on the type of keyword you are targeting and the domain authority your website is having.
Have patience to see evergreen results.
All the best.
